CSE - Overview

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in the year 2002 with an intake of 60 students was increased to 180 students in year 2012. The Department is recognized as one of the leading department with infrastructure and faculties to match very best in the north India. The graduates from the department  are  globally recognized as innovative and well-prepared computing professionals.

The vision of the department is become a Centre of Excellence in the Discipline of Computer Science and to build a strong research and teaching environment that responds swiftly to the challenges of the 21st century.

The Department's mission is to provide students and faculty with an open environment that fosters professional and personal growth. We will prepare our students for successful careers in the computing professions through flexible programs of study that can be adapted to support individual career goals.

The department encourages project based learning among students to enhance practical knowledge about emerging technologies and trends. Currently Department of Computer Science is having more than 32 permanent faculties who have completed their academics from institute of reputation like BITs, C-DAC, IP University, NITs, and Various other prestigious institutes.

Faculty members are imparting themselves regularly in research and continuously presenting research papers in various national and International Conferences. The department is recognized as remote center of NITTTR Chandigarh for conducting ICT based courses on latest technologies. The department has state of the art laborites to meat the curriculum requirement of GGSIP University and hands on latest technologies.

In Database Management Systems (DBMS) laboratory students learn to install and configure the database server and the front end tools. They design database and write applications for manipulation of data for a stand-alone and shared data base including concepts like concurrency control, transaction roll back, logging, report generation etc.

Data Structures lab demonstrate familiarity with major algorithms and data structures. It helps in choosing the appropriate data structure and algorithm design method for a specified application, determining which algorithm or data structure to use in different scenarios. It makes students familiar with writing recursive methods and demonstrates understanding of the abstract properties of various data structures such as stacks, queues, lists, trees and graphs.

Java programming enables students to create Java programs that leverage the object-oriented features of the Java language, such as encapsulation, inheritance and polymorphism; use data types, arrays and other data collections; implement error-handling techniques using exception handling, create and event-driven GUI using Swing components; and implement I/O functionality to read from and write to text files.

Operating System lab introduce the basic principles in Operating System. It covers all the management modules present in the OS like process management, Memory management, File management, Disk management, Network management, I/O management.

Compiler Design lab helps in understanding the basic concept of compiler design, and its different phases which will be helpful to construct new tools like LEX, YACC, etc.

Web Technology lab helps to create a fully functional website with mvc architecture, develop an online book store, and provide an understanding of the language translation peculiarities by designing a complete translator for a mini language.

Data Warehousing and Data Mining lab makes student understand the basic principles, concepts and applications of data warehousing and data mining. It introduce the task of data mining as an important phase of knowledge recovery process. It enables students to do conceptual, logical, and physical design of Data Warehouses OLAP applications and OLAP deployment.

Computer Graphics lab is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to computer graphics leading to the ability to understand contemporary terminology, progress, issues, and trends. It provides a thorough introduction to computer graphics techniques, focusing on 3D modeling, image synthesis, and rendering. It helps in giving a vision for geometric transformations, geometric algorithms, software systems (OpenGL, shaders), 3D object models (surface, volume and implicit), visible surface algorithms, image synthesis

Project &Innovative Research Lab (PIRL)

Overview
PIRL works to establish policies and procedures for the research use of various domains of “Technology” within the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. Our mission is to oversee research involving human computer interaction to computer networks,combining all the aspects of computers to work on projectlearning based for social wellbeing. Major goals are:

* To ensure all research performed should be DST, DRDO, CSIR sponsored.
* To determine that PIRL can maintain the resources to carry out each research protocol, including personnel, software, hardware and scan time.
PIRL is charged with overseeing the day-to-day operations of all of the Computer based procedures associated with research protocols, providing information regarding the use of research based project tofacilitate the research community at the HMRITM, providing the PIRL users with all of the policies of the institution governing research and ensuring that PIRL is in compliance with these policies.

PIRL - PURPOSE & MISSION                                                       

PURPOSE
To facilitate product development based research that can be performed within the guidelines set forth by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the HMRITM for the enhancement of learning of students and faculties of HMRITM towards latest research technologies like human computer interaction based system, biometrics, Big data analytics.

MISSION
* PIRL will establish policies and procedures for the research use of social wellbeing.
* PIRL will review proposed research protocols involving humans, animals, phantoms or specimens prior to initiation of any project. This process has two major goals:
* To ensure all research performed within the facilities complies with PIRL policy andHMRITMregulations.
* To determine that PIRL can maintain the resources to carry out each research protocol, including personnel, software, hardware and scan time.
* PIRL will impose appropriate sanctions and/or restrictions on users who act in violation of the approved policies and procedures.
* PIRL will provide training as necessary to ensure the safe and efficient use of departmental facilities for conduct of safe research.
* PIRL will facilitate the progress and conduct of all research within the department through:
accurate, comprehensive and timely dissemination of information regarding status and capabilities of PIRL facilities to current and potential users;
* administration and scheduling of research time allotments on Biometric Device;
* Development of new research capabilities which can be transitioned to use by the society;
* Development of collaborations between/among Departmental researchers and with investigators outside the department.
* PIRL will receive and act upon recommendations and complaints regarding the administration of Computer facilities.
* PIRL will periodically review and amend policies and procedures. Amendments will be distributed to the PIRL community.

PIRL-Objective   
* PIRL is established for the encouragement of research and its importance in the HMRITM students and faculties for the betterment of society and nation through research based project. Some, of the main objective of PIRL is listed below:-
* To get sponsored and funded research projects from DST,DRDO, CSIR, DRDO, and research based organizations.
* To encourage the students for research and publication.
* To provide and environment for research to facilitate novel research through PATENTS.
* To establish Research Group in the Department to encourage and identify the research expertise in faculties and students.

Research Resources
Research in multidisciplinary systems(including architecture, networking, operating systems, distributed systems, vision & robotics etc) involves a wide and constantly updated variety of hardware, software, and networks. Current hardware includes high-performance systems, biometric device, and webcam to provide students a platform to work on latest technologies.

Brief Profile:

Dr. Ravinder kumar has obtained M. Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from GJU S&T Hisar. He has been awarded gold medal in M. Tech.  He has obtained his Ph.D Degree on Biometrics Technologies to USICT, GGSIPU Delhi under the joint supervision of Prof. Pravin Chandra of USICT and Prof. M. Hanmandlu of IIT Delhi. He is also the UGC NET-2014 qualified.

Dr. Kumar has over 17 years of extensive experience in IT Industry and Academics. His interdisciplinary research interests span over image processing and machine learning design.

He has conducted workshops and training programs at national level on image processing using MATLAB, enhancing teaching-learning process, efficient network designing using CISCO tools etc.  He has supervised many student projects at UG and PG levels including M. Tech and M. Phil. in Computer Science.  Presently 4 students are registered under him for their Ph. D. Research in USCIT GGSIPU Delhi. He is also the CISCO Certified Academy Instructor (CCNA and CCAI) to provide CCNA/CCNP training. He has also awarded by CISCO as best academy instructor. He has published about 26 research papers in journals and international conferences of repute.
