MAE - Overview

Department started in the year 2003 with 60 student’s intake. Undergone several improvements over the years the intake was increased from 60 to 120. The Department is fully equipped with state of art laboratories and facilities. It has highly qualified, experienced and professional faculty from IIT’S, DTU, and NIT’S etc. Department is research and development driven producing product developed engineers.

Department has filed 9 patents so far.Value Aided Programs (VAP) followed with Project Based Learning (PBL) in each semester to enhance the competitiveness and employability of the students. Value Aided Program (VAP) was conducted on the latest technical topics AUTOMOBILE ASSEMBLY AND DISASSEMBLY, AUTOCAD, CATIA AND ANSYS.  Different projects based on Project Based Learning   was made by students and presented in a Tech-Expo organized by HMRITM in each semester. By this opportunity, students get a platform to expose their skill. Fabrication of Solar regeneration system, Regenerative power generation on bicycle, Generation of energy through canals,

Single screw ABS extruder and recycler are such good projects presented in Tech-Expo. In Mechanical Department,   for the 1st year students   we have three state of art labs (Workshop Lab, Engineering Graphics Lab and Engineering Mechanics lab) for all the engineering branches. For the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students we have Machine Drawing Lab, Strength of Material Lab, Fluid Mechanics Lab,

Manufacturing Machines Lab, Fluid Systems Lab, Theory of Machines Lab, Numerical Analysis and Statistical Techniques Lab, Heat Transfer and I.C. Engine lab, Metrology lab, Metal cutting and Tool Design Lab, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Lab, Automobile Engg Lab, Machine Design Lab, Engineering System Modelling and Simulation Lab, Robotics Lab, CFD, CIM and CAD lab. Three Student Chapter also run by the Department, first one based on the Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning, ISHRAE, (The Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers), was founded in 1981 at New Delhi. Next student chapter, Formula SAE which is a student design competition, organized by SAE International (SAE, previously known as the Society of Automotive Engineers).

The competition was started in 1978. Third student chapter, ASME which helps the students in research contributions to the fundamental theory, algorithms, design, manufacture and experimental validation for mechanisms and robots. A student-run team of enthusiast engineers of MAE (Mechsonic Racing Car), get an opportunity to have a hands-on experience of Designing, Analyzing and Fabricating a formula style car under “College Design Series” organized by the “Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)”.

Brief Profile :  

Dr. V C Pandey has been working in the department since 22nd May, 2015 as a Professor. He earned the doctorate degree from department of Mechanical & Production Engineering, Delhi College of Engineering (Delhi University) in 2011; prior to this he completed the masters degree in Industrial Engineering & Management in year 1996 from SGSITS, DAVV Indore and Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MMMEC Gorakhpur in year 1994.

He has more than 22 years rich experience of industry, research, teaching and administration in the organizations of repute like R V College of Engineering Bangalore, MAIT Delhi etc. He has teaching-learning experience of various undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering and equivalent disciplines. He worked as the head of the institution in three different engineering colleges for six years. 

He has quality seven research publications in his credit that includes the international journals published by Elsevier and Emerald. As a brilliant scholar he received GATE fellowship and integrated scholarships from central and state government respectively during his education. He guided more than 30 projects at undergraduate level. 

He attended more than twenty workshops and conferences in best institutions of the country. His area of interest is Advanced Manufacturing Systems, Lean and Agile Manufacturing, Operation Management and Supply Chain Management.  He is actively involved as the reviewer in the best journals of his research area. He is life member of various professional bodies working for the growth of technical education and industrial engineering like ISTE, IIIE etc

MAE - Laboratories

Workshop Lab- Mechanical Engineering Workshop is a place where students acquire knowledge on the operation of various processes involved in manufacturing and production .The Workshop Practice course makes students competent in handling practical work in engineering environment. Workshop practice gives the basic working knowledge required for the production of various engineering products.  It explains the construction, function, use and application of different working tools, equipment, machines as well as the technique of manufacturing a product from its raw material.

MM & MCTD LAB- In Manufacturing Machines & Metal Cutting & Tool design laboratory, Students learn the basic parts of various metal removal machines and also learn the different cutting operations that can perform on the machines. Students also design the cutting tools using the machines. This lab is used by 2nd year & 3rd year students of MAE department. Lab is fully equipped with various machine tool i.e Lathe Machine, Shaper Machine, Planer Machine, Grinder. The objective of this lab is to give knowledge of various metal removal machines.

Metrology Lab- The purpose of this laboratory is to familiarize students with measuring devices,  to study the different measurement methods & to learn proper measuring techniques through the simple measurements of mass, length & time. This lab is used by 3rd year students of MAE department. The expected outcome of this lab is that the students will be able to express errors, and correction factors and able to calibrate various measuring devices. Various measuring tools are sine bar, bevel Protractor,  Gear  Tooth  Caliper, vernier Caliper etc.

SOM LAB- this lab is part a mechanical engineering  student, being taught in 2 year of curriculum. Mai n objective of this lab. Give information regarding the stress and strain under various types of load. Various  equipment like UTM( universal testing machine), torsion testing machine ,impact testing machine and hardness testing  machine are explained in depth. These machine are used to find different type of stresses( tensile, compression and shear) . hardness testing machine is used to find hardness of given specimen.

TOM LAB- Objectives of this Theory of Machines lab are to impart practical knowledge on design and analysis of mechanisms for the specified type of motion in a machine. With the study of rigid bodies motions and forces for the transmission systems, machine kinematics and dynamics can be well understood. Demonstration exercises are provided with wide varieties of transmission element models to understand machine kinematics. Various experiments with governors, gyroscopes, balancing machines and universal vibration facilities are available to understand machine dynamics.

CAD LAB- All major manufacturing companies and their suppliers use CAD software to design parts and evaluate them with respect to fit, form and function. This course introduces students to CAD software. Students  will learn theory and practice related to drafting,  parametric modeling, freeform  surface modeling, and use of CAD models for some downstream engineering activities such as drafting deigning and modeling and also providing additional competence in software applications, libraries, and graphical user interfaces to support computer graphics and design projects by providing supervised practice and individualized computer assisted learning on software and techniques commonly found in the computer graphic design field.

ROBOTICS LAB- This lab concerned with various activities performed by Robots. These robots perform the jobs that are physically demanding, monotonous or even hazardous to human beings. Also, they increase the work rate and the quality of products in places where factors such as speed and accuracy are essential. Usually, these robots use a small set of fixed movement patterns which limits their possible interactions with the surroundings. This is in contrast to the industrial robot, which is simply defined as an “automatically controlled, reprogrammable, multipurpose manipulator programmable in three or more axes.

RAC LAB :  In Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning  laboratory, Students learn about the basic cycle of Refrigeration and also learn the various component of it. Students calculate the heat load and COP of the  machines. This lab is used by  3rd year students of MAE department. Lab is fully equipped with various machine tools  and apparatus like vapour compression test rig, vapour compression air-conditioning test rig. The objective of this lab is to give knowledge of various tools,  to analyze the performance of an actual air conditioning unit, ice making unit  based on experimental measurements.

AUTOMOBILE LAB: This lab is used by 3rd year mechanical and automation engineering students with facilities for the group of 30 students to carry out experiments independently. The automobile lab is well equipped with the following: The working model of petrol engine, Cut-section model of 4 stroke and 2 stroke of petrol and diesel engine, Section model of gear box, differential, wheel and tyre assembly, steering assembly and different tool for assembly like spanners, hammer, screw driver set, torque wrench etc. The main objective of this lab is to make the student understand about the various components of petrol engine and diesel engine by dismantling and assembling the parts like carburetor, alternator, water pump etc and to gain the knowledge about transmission, suspension, steering and braking systems.

CFD LAB- The objective of Computational Fluid Dynamics  lab is to provide a very basic, elementary and tutorial presentation of CFD. This lab is used by  final year students of MAE department.  ANSYS 15.0  software tool is used for the Transiant Thermal Analysis and Steady State Thermal Analysis of the PISTON, CAR DISC BREAK ROTOR  AND HEAT SINK.
